Halldor Helgason – Arcadia Full Part

We don’t want to spoil the ender, but Halldor Helgason‘s full part in Arcadia is just too good. Online for 48 hours only, enjoy this exclusive online stream of one of the best snowboarding parts in the last decade. Complete with street, backcountry, park, technical riding, and just balls-to-the-wall massive hits, Halldor’s ender embodies the man strapped in on screen. He is the personification of a metal song sliding sideways, and is still one of the most humble and friendly characters we have ever met.

His motivation this year, besides just his absolute love for snowboarding, was the 10-shot rule. Every ten clips he got for his part, whether it was a hammer, crash, or both, he would allow himself to party and get blackout drunk. If you add all the shots up in his six minute part, it is easy to see that he threw a lot more back than just insane upside-down methods (we still aren’t sure what to call them). When you are done watching his full part, check out the interview with Halldor to see what all went in to making his latest video piece that will most definitely go down in the history books marking a rider that is not just pushing the whole culture of snowboarding when it is in great need to be pushed, but is doing it amongst a class of his own.

“I had a couple of days off from other jobs and took the flight to Riksgränsen to hook up with Halldor, Victor Daviet and the BYNDxMDLS boys. Due to bad weather in Riksgränsen we took the RV down to Kiruna which is a small mining town in the northern parts of Sweden. We all went out scoping for spots and “Kuske” and Halldor found an old mine outside the town with different spots in it.

Halldor found this spot where you had to gap over a cave and then in to a super steep wallride. I first shot it with a long lens so you could see what was going on but the spot didn’t look so good from that angle so I decided to go for a more artsy one. I picked up my fisheye and went in to the cave. The cave was really dark so I put a flash in there to lighten it up and add another dimension to the photo. After that I had to throw a lot of snow in to cover the traces from me. When I first saw the photos on the camera I was really excited on how it looked. I remember running over to Halldor showing him the shots to get him pumped after he had taking some heavy slams. He did a couple more tries and then just stomped his cab hardway 270 to the nasty wall/rockride.

Growing up, I read snowboard magazines all the time. Inspired by Swedish photographers like Vincent Skoglund and Anders Neuman. When I Got in to snowboard photogaphy seven years ago I could only dream about getting covers on big magazines, especially TWSNOW. As the mags get fewer it is an honor to have one of my works on the front. Hopefully I can inspire snowboarders and photographers like others have done with me. Keep shredding!” – Daniel Bernstal

“This one was heavy for Pat. FS invert on a mental wind feature up in British Columbia. There was a huge rock formation above the inrun where it would have been more ideal to drop so he had to pick to start from the left or the right. It was probably a good 500 ft. vertical run and with the added door number one or door number two scenario, it was hard to tell the best way into it. Standing under this thing was powerful and from the bottom it was just like looking at a big white wall. Took some figuring out for sure. Once he found it though, it came together pretty quickly. Just in the nick of time too, because the shadow line was creeping down. It all lined up and Pat was right on the money. The highest one on the backdoor of the new TWS.” – Aaron Blatt

Finishing in second was Roope Tonteri, and in third Sébastien Konijnenberg.

HYPED: Lobster Halldor Helgason Pro Model

You can’t get much more Helgason than Halldor’s Pro Model Lobster board. The man is so insane they had to make two pro models for him this season, and in addition to his ASYM board, he added a more performance oriented twin for when the snow days call for a little extra send.

It displays a simple, black and white design with his favorite tools smack dab in the middle; a dental flosser crossing over a hammer/cheese grater apparatus. We’ve learned to expect the unexpected with Halldor.

Not only does it sport a badass aesthetic, it’s built for a badass day on the mountain. It falls right in the middle of playful and aggressive with a medium/hard flex, making it a quiver killer fit for big park jumps and deep powder days in the backcountry. This true twin weapon has Triple Base Technology, meaning turns will be fast and smooth, and it’ll have your back when landings get a little sketchy. A new feature includes Sidekick tips on the nose and tail, which makes it float through the snow even better than before. There are six carbon strips positioned rail to rail beneath the bindings for extra support, speed, and pop when hop-zinging through terrain.

If you want to conquer all facets of the mountain, do yourself a favor and check out Halldor’s rig. You can even rock his matching pair of bindings to obtain the full Icelandic partyboy set up.

Lobster Cream Week – Seven Days in Iceland with Halldor Helgason and The Cream Team

Lobster Snowboard’s Halldor Helgason, Eiki Helgason, Frank Bourgeois, Colin Wilson, Fridtjof Tischendorf, and Sparrow Knox spent a week late last season riding in the Helgason’s home country of Iceland. As to why they called it cream week, Halldor had this to say, “We were saying Creamy a lot this season, for example… this rail is looking pretty damn creamy. Or when we would fill in a backcountry jump we would call it cream pie-ing the jump and so on…

We aren’t sure if we completely understand what they are doing, but that seems to always be the case with the Lobster crew, and it sure looks like a damn fun time. Whether it is a pipe or a gap these dudes stay creamy, and we just hope the cream keeps flowing. Enjoy the Lobster Cream Week edit, and be on the lookout for more from the crustacea cadre soon!

HYPED: Switchback Halldor Helgason Pro Model Binding

Coming from a freestyle kind of guy, Halldor Helgason’s Pro Model Binding is a match made in heaven for a freestyle rider.

It is built on Switchback’s new, stronger AERON base, which forges aluminum with the highest grade polyamide Nylon, creating a lighter and more responsive riding experience that makes popping around on natural mountain features that much more fun. Proper presses and mellow landings are natural with this bindings flexy calf-cupping design, and the Wrapback Highbacks do not disappoint when it comes to support.

The Eames straps feature durable ratchets and ladders, and the thin design on the outer strap eliminates pressure points so that you can ride all day long. Power transfer is smooth and natural while the minimal amount of board-to-binding contact saves weight.

These bindings offer a superlative fit to any boot brand or size and tool-less adjustments make your day on the mountain as easy and long as possible. They even match Halldor’s pro model Lobster board… maybe getting something like this will harness his superhuman abilities and transform us all into party boarders. Watch him do his thing in these bad boys.
